Ashley Ogle
|
 |
Sometimes it's the small things that change the course of a person's life.
When Ashley Ogle was a freshman at Las Vegas High School, some of her friends called her and asked her if she'd like to go to volleyball tryouts with
them. Ogle went, discovered volleyball, and the rest is history.
Ogle is probably pretty glad she went that day. The sport has helped her earn two full-ride scholarships and made her the strong coach she is today.
At Las Vegas High, Ogle played all 4 years - 3 as varsity under coach Sue Thurman.
- MVP for 2 years
- Hammer award for 2 years
- All Conference player for 2 years
- Nevada Regional Player her senior year and was a scholar athlete
Ogle was also a 4 year varsity softball player for Las Vegas and was a second-team all-conference selection in both her junior and senior years.
Ogle was recruited by Taft College in Taft, Calif., to play volleyball by the Lady Cougars and head coach Kanoe Bandy, who offered her a full-ride scholarship.
"I went to Taft because of the fact I could play volleyball and softball," Ogle said. "I absolutely loved the coach (Bandy). She is absolutely
awesome. In my sophomore year we went undefeated. We were CVC (Central Valley Conference) champs."
In her sophomore year at Taft, Ogle had 159 kills, 62 blocks and 309 digs in 100 games and was a second-team all-CVC pick in 2003. Ogle was an all conference
player both years and awarded most inspirational player. On the Lady Cougars softball team, Ogle was captain and earned an honorable mention on the all-conference
team for her play.
After leaving her mark at Taft, Ogle decided to transfer to Hope where she also was offered a full-ride scholarship. Ogle stressed the need to go to
a place where she could still play both volleyball and softball.
"I went to Hope because it was closer to home than Bakersfield was actually and my sisters live around the area and so it was close to them,"
Ogle said. "And it was another place that I could play softball and volleyball."
In her first year at Hope this fall as a junior, the 5-foot-9-inch Ogle helped the Royals make the National Christian College Athletic Association Division
I Women's Volleyball Tournament, a feat that the team accomplished for the first time that year.
Hope tied for third for the second-straight year in the tourney, losing to fellow Golden State Athletic Conference member The Master's College in four
games. The tourney's top-seed and host, Palm Beach Atlantic University (Florida), won the NCCAA championship by beating The Master's in a five-game match.
"Going in we weren't really expected to do much. We're in a really, really tough conference down here. So we went as the seventh-seed out of 10
teams," Ogle said. "Other teams were really mad that we got put in as the wild card as the number-seven seed."
Ogle graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and then left to play volleyball in Europe.
Since returning from Europe, Ogle has coached high school, college and club teams.
Ogle has also trained 2 years for beach volleyball and the AVP with her partners Tarin Keith, Monica Lynch, and Natalie Melcher; finishing as high as
37th.
Ogle, whose brother Austin now plays at Las Vegas High, cites her parents as one of the big reasons she plays sports.
"My family is very, very sports-related," Ogle said. "My dad played every sport in high school that he could, and my mom played softball.
And my mom and dad never missed any of my high school games. They are huge sports fans."

Lauren Regaldo
Playing History and Experience
Lauren Regaldo has been playing volleyball for about 10 years. Her career started in the 6th grade at Mesa Robles Middle School where she fell in love with
the sport. In each of her high school years, Lauren played for the varsity team. As a freshman and sophomore years at Glen A. Wilson High School in Hacienda
Heights her team made it to the second round of CIF tournament. Lauren transferred to La Serna High School in Whittier, to finish out her junior and senior
years where the team managed an appearance in the first round of CIF.
As a player, Lauren's ball control and court vision served as an advantage over other players. Coupled with her strong hitting and setting skills, Lauren
developed as a solid overall player with killer instincts. As important as playing skills, Lauren learned early that winning takes both individual and team
effort. This is a characteristic she continues to practice and encourage whether she's playing or coaching.
While playing for La Serna High School, Lauren was named to the second team all league team for high school players. At Wilson High School, she was the
Most Valuable Player and Best Offensive Player.
Coaching History and Experience
Lauren's passion for volleyball has naturally led her into coaching younger players both at the high school and club level. Currently, Lauren is in her
third year of coaching the La Habra High School freshmen girl's team. In her first two years, her teams went undefeated. No small feat considering that
the majority of freshmen players have had little or no prior competitive playing experience.
Lauren coaching techniques utilizes positive reinforcement to go along with rigorous training, especially for players just starting out. She finds that
players can still develop into formidable athletes but also gain a positive lifelong experience, even if they decide to move on from volleyball.
Lauren's immediate goals are to utilize her skills, experience and more importantly, her positive attitude to build and develop players to their full
potential while making volleyball a fun activity for kids of all ages.
